Historic Dams Along the Brandywine
Eleven historic dams are located along the Brandywine River. They start in the City of Wilmington with Dam 1 and are numbered through Dam 11, the Rockland Dam.

A movement is afoot to remove dams along the historic Brandywine River. In fact, this is happening nationwide. The intent is to allow fish passage (shad) up the River into Pennsylvania as it was in pre-Colonial days. Efforts are focused now on Dam 4 (near The Falls residential community) and Dam 6 (near the DuPont Experimental Station). If no one speaks up, these dams will be demolished. Please get involved while there's still time.
